The Economics of European Integration (MS Word document)

The aim of the course is to give the students a thorough insight in the economic issues related to the cooperation in the European Union (EU). Although the establishment of the European Union was mainly driven by the political goal of ensuring the peace on the European continent, the major instrument for achieving this overall goal was integrate the economies of the member countries through trade, movements of factors of production and establishment of common policies on various areas. The main two pillars of the economic cooperation in the EU are the Internal Market which consists of the ‘four freedoms’: free movements of goods, services, capital and persons, and the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) based on the common currency the euro. The course aims to give a comprehensive analysis of the various elements of the economic cooperation in the EU. Focus in the course will be on the economic analytical aspects of the integration process.

The course is offered for MA students in economics and fourth years BA students. It consists of 32 hours/16 lectures intensively taught in a 4 weeks period in November 2005.
The aim of the course is to give the students a profound insight in modern international economic theory.

A research seminar in economics will take place at Vilnius University in the autumn semester 2005. The aim of the seminar is to stimulate PhD students and research oriented MA students to produce research papers for submission to scientific journals and book contributions.

Yvonne Goldammer
The research seminar in law aims to further develop legal research and research skills in the fields of international, European and comparative issues from a Lithuanian perspective. It is targeted at Master students.
Topics of the seminar include: intellectual property rights and other aspects of Internet law, competition law, and general European law. All these aspects will be considered from the Lithuanian perspective, too.
The seminar starts on September 13 and will be continued by regular meetings and consultations between the participants until the end of December 2005. It is organized by Yvonne Goldammer.
